Amazing Hi-fi sound in small three-quarter size bodyPROS: Amazing Hi-fi sound, Price, Compact bodyCONS: No optical input on Amplifier (no problem in this class) |
The Sonata is a compact mini hifi system. Manufactured by the company Cambridge Audio, which is a traditional British manufacturer of hi-fi equipment. And it shows. In comparison with mini systems the Sonata has a very powerful weapon - the sound quality. The sound is amazing - sound from the category offered by its full-size siblings.
How is that possible? The Sonata consists of two components - CD player and amplifier. The size of the components is the so-called three-quarter, so less than conventional full-size hi-fi components. Cambridge Audio in this case managed to cram a number of components of high-quality Hi-Fi class into the Sonata's compact size. For example, the electronic transformer or the CD DAC.
And that's great - if you do not have enough space on the shelf for a large hi-fi component, this solution is good.
As I said, the sound is key, but the other parameters are good - Sonata looks nice and is easy to use. The sound quality of CDs is excellent, much better than MP3 (even if they have a high bitrate).
One important thing - you can buy Sonata in a package with speakers. Do not do it. The kit speakers are not bad, but the Sonata is two classes better. Connect higher quality speakers - at least in the same price range as the Sonata’) - and enjoy what the Sonata can do.
Sonata does not play MP3 CDs, but it does not matter, it includes a cradle for an iPod or iPhone - and it can be controlled via remote control.
My conclusion – the Sonata with good speakers has an excellent price / performance ratio.
Standfloor speakers
what kind of speakers is appropriate? Does the Sonata has the power to feed standfloor speakers?

Absolutelly, I have very good experience with Accoustic Energy Radiance 2 and Tannoy Revolution Signature DC6T. I tested both of them with Sonata, I think the Tannoy is great combination with Sonata

please, is there a sound equalizer in Sonata?

Yes, just push and hold Volume button for several seconds and you can set up the treble & bass

+1 for not going with the stock speakers. I have this system and trialled it with several other speakers before settling on DALI Lektor 1s and a Mordaunt Short Alumni 9 Subwoofer. Friends have said what a great and realistic sound it has in my small lounge.

hello, please, how did you connect the Subwoofer? I have component with CD player (not the DVD) - CD player has no Subwoofer output. I tried just to connect Subwoofer to the Sub-out on Amplifier but it did not work. I thought it could use signal from CD-line-out, but not. Is there some way how to connect it to make it work? Thanks
