Matt is better for work
My experience - glossy surface is perfect for photos or movies in a dark room, for work in the office (with sun rays/many windows etc) the matt is more practical.

I have both at work and the glossy surface is very glare-prone. Even under normal fluorescent lights, I can see the reflection of my fingers on the keyboard as I type this. Brightening the screen is the only way to reduce this, but I like to save energy and save my eyes by using a dim screen. The only pro to the glossy screen is that the picture is crisp and it acts as a mirror if you turn the screen off. It's also prone to finger prints.

matte is better..
I agree. Matte is better in sun or strong light conditions. I am surprised that Apple presents only glossy surface on notebooks and LCDs. I asked the salesman - luckily, they can deliver also in matte (the price is a little bit higher)
